Mascot Races

The date: Sunday, May 25th, 1998. The place: Lancaster Municipal Park, aka The Hangar, home of the Lancaster JetHawks. Over a dozen mascots and characters from all over Southern California, joined by Rocky Rhino of the San Jose Rhinos, converged for the ultimate life and death battle to determine who would reign supreme in the world of mascots. Sadly, no one remembered to bring their broadswords, so instead they all just sort of cavorted through the park while the Jethawks busily trounced the Bakersfield Blaze, 15-6.

Rocky and Yippee challenge any and all comers to a quick game of 2-on-2, but none dare brave the mighty athletic prowess of The Dynamic Mascot Duo.
Yippee and Rocky find themselves with a devoted fan, who sticks by them faithfully for the length of the game. Clearly a young woman of taste and distinction who will grow up to be either a professional mascot or a celebrity stalker.
Rocky poses with KB, the Lancaster Jethawks jet-powered mascot.
Rocky pays a visit to the rich folks in the fancy seats, for which they paid well over $7.
Not to be outdone, Yippee attempts to ingratiate himself with the Rich Folks as well, hoping to find gainful employment as the loyal Mascot of the Manor for some country estate. That, or a free hot dog. Whichever.
Late in the game, a swarm of killer bees invades the stands. Chaos ensues, until Rocky and Yippee manage to single out the Queen Bee. After lulling her into a false sense of security by making nice with the nearby children, our brave pair pummel her senseless, saving the day.
Taking a break from the action, Yippee disguises himself as a fan and infiltrates the stands for some furtive observation of the crowd, hoping to gather useful information for his doctoral thesis on the psychology of sports fans.
